North Africa Team

We want each of you to know how much we appreciate your prayers for our trip to North Africa! We had the opportunity to share in our meeting a couple of weeks ago.

Here is a brief recap of our trip.

We had 3 main opportunities.

1. Daily Arabic classes
We attended the school were our workers do all of their initial language study. It gave us the opportunity to learn a little conversational Arabic (although I spoke as much French on this trip as I did Arabic) and to help continued relationships with the teachers. I don't think that this was the teams favorite thing but they did learn more than they think!

2. English Class
One of our friends, teaches English at a University and we were asked to join her in class, interact with her students and help them with their English.

3. Prayer Walking
I am so proud of this team, during our time in NA we walked over 35 miles. The workers in NA have put together audio guides giving directions for prayer walking various areas of the cities that we downloaded on our Ipods, both for convenience and security. When I first learned of this project I thought it was brilliant! In fact I have been working on similar audio tracts that are for prayer walking NAU. This is what we did for the most of our stay in NA, and I received a email the other day sharing that things are already happening where we walked and prayed. If you have every had the opportunity to prayer walk for any length of time you know that it is not only physically demanding, but also spiritually demanding. The team pushed hard and covered much ground. I love that God allows us to be part of what He is doing in His Kingdom.

Another Celebration

A few Sunday's ago, Calvary had the privilege of worshiping with Village Park Baptist Church in Village of Oak Creek. They were enjoying 10 years of serving in Arizona. We have shared a neat relationship with this sister church for the past couple of years. They have contributed financially to our "Back to School" parties at Cogdill Rec. Center, provided man power to help prepare food at some of our outreach activities, and give us prayer support. For the past year, we have had the opportunity to support them with monthly financial support...

Celebrating Baptism

Last Friday night we celebrated a baptism Calvary style. We meet at a members home, have the baptism in the backyard jacuzzi, pray and share a meal together.

Ministering Together

In the past couple of weeks, we have had some neat ministry opportunities...

1. Each member of Calvary brought canned food (something they would actually like to eat) to place in a box that would be taken to a family in the Brannen Homes neighborhood. We also wrote notes of encouragement to go in the box, believing that God would use this to further His Kingdom.

2. Some friends have recently taken a postion with the International Mission Board serving in Western Europe. We had the privilidge of writing notes of encouragement to them and their children.

Family Time

This past Sunday we gathered together to pray for LaShay (the mom of a family God has tied us to) who was scheduled for back surgery early this morning. We asked LaShay if she would join us so we could gather around and pray for her. LaShay has come to Calvary in the past, but it has been a while-she graciously accepted out invitation, even though she doesn't enjoy being the center of attention. What a neat time of Worship. We love them as a part of us- in fact, LaShay will say that we are her family.

Early this morning a few of us were able to be at the hospital with LaShay, her mom and oldest son Marcel. I am pleased to report that the surgery went very will. The doctors were able to replace a disk in her lower back and believe that the others are in good condition. She will have about 3 months of recovery-and then back to better than normal.

Here are some things we are praying for, if you would like to join us...

*a good healthy recovery

*for the families finances-LaShay will be off from work for several weeks w/out pay and this has put a huge strain on their family (Calvary is helping out financially as much as she can)

*for the children to do a good job with their chores while their mom is in the hospital the next couple of days, as well as when she comes home.

*for God to continue to use this time to reveal Himself to LaShay and her family

A Baby Shower

As you may know we meet at Cogdill Recreation Center. Since Cogdill is a City of Flagstaff facility, each week we have a rec. center employee at the building. One of these employees is Kendra, a young woman who has been pregant with her first child. Over the past several months we have had the opportunity to build a neat relationship with Kendra, and ask her each week what she needs prayer for. A few weeks ago she invited all of us to her baby shower. Unfortunately almost everyone had prior commitments and was unable to come. However, we decided to give her a shower. We asked her to let us know what she was registered for and didn't receive at her first shower. During our time together, Calvary was able to get to know Kendra better, be generous with her and pray for her and the baby. We love where God has planted us as a church and as individuals in this community. We are so excited about the relationships that He continues to bless us with.
